Historically, you had to make a choice between a ball-head for stills-photography or a fluid video head for videography. Although some stills photographers do love video heads, others curse it, as the video arms get in the way. Regardless of whichever you favour, the new Manfrotto Befree 3 is easily configurable for both stills photography and videography.
Take a look at the video from Manfrotto introducing the new model.
The Manfrotto Befree 3-Way Advanced sits in the travel tripod class and weighs in at 2kg. It’s ultra-compact; only 40cm long. This means it’s small enough to fit in a standard aircraft carry on bag. Manufactured from Aluminium, the tripod will carry loads of up to 6kg, which is plenty for most situations.
As well as being ultra-portable, the tripod is easy to use in the field. Compatibility for stills and videography has been achieved through the inclusion of a new Manfrotto Befree 3-Way Fluid Head. The system includes:
- Fluid Drag System both on panoramic and tilt movements
- Compatible with Arca-swiss and Manfrotto 501PL video plate
- Operation in extreme temperatures -30 to 70 °Celcius
Manfrotto Befree 3-Way Fluid Head
Most modern DSLRs and Mirrorless Cameras now combine high-quality stills and 4k video recording. Manfrotto recognised the growing number of users who require the flexibility of a tripod system optimised for stills and videography. The introduction of the new 3-way fluid head satisfies this growing trend.
The 3-way fluid head utilises the same technology as other tripods in the Befree range. Namely the Befree Fluid Drag System, which ensures smooth and accurate control over your camera. The additional long panoramic handle, a specific portrait position, and 3 bubble levels ensure simplicity of operation. In the field, you can just concentrate on creativity.
The body of the tripod meets the fundamental requirement for a tripod – the safety of your kit! Manfrotto has used its trademarked QPL Travel Leg Locking System. East to set up, and keeps the camera safe and steady on all types of terrain.
The ergonomic leg adjustment controls allow you to set the tripod legs to an 89-degree angle. This allows you to get low perspective shots when you need them. Overall, the tripod is intuitive and fast to use.
The tripod is designed for both right and left-handed users. This enables everyone to change shooting perspectives intuitively and find the right tripod height. The incorporation of an Easy Link allows you to add accessories to the tripod; e.g. a mobile phone holder. The Easy link is the same system used on the Manfrotto professional 190 and 055 tripods.
Finally, you even get an included travel case for maximum convenience.
